In this article, we’ll take a look at five new competition style tennis racquets. All of these racquets are designed for the advanced (NTRP 4.0+) player with a full swing seeking a control oriented frame. This category of racquets is very traditional, and has not seen much technological advancement during the past few years. As Wilson introduces its new nCode technology and Head expands Liquidmetal through to more of its flagship player’s racquets, the tournament caliber player has a nice selection of racquets to choose from that offer more stability, power and comfort. All of these racquets are either currently available.

The nSix-One Tour is a refinement of last years Wilson Pro Staff Tour 90, used by Roger Federer. Its pedigree dates back to the original Wilson Pro Staff 85, the racquet Pete Sampras relied upon for his entire career. The new nSix-One Tour shares many characteristics with both of these classic frames, most notably its 17mm box cross section construction, which produces that truly unique Wilson Pro Staff feel. Wilson’s nCode technology is based upon a new manufacturing process where nano-sized silicone oxide crystals are used to fill the void between the carbon fibers in the racquets construction. Wilson claims that this new technology makes nCode racquets 2 times stronger, 2 times more stable and up to 22% more powerful than a similar racquet without nCode construction. An initial playtest comparison between the nSix-One Tour and the Pro Staff Tour 90, which share the exact mold shape, confirms a substantial improvement in feel and stability.
