Average rating:
| Superb doubles racquet, 7th Jun 2009 | Reviewer: Dale Caseley | Actually, my satisfaction rating is higher than 4 stars. I switched to BK looking for faster response after owning three YYs. I've owned this racquet as well as the PCS 30 and PC 20 Be, all of which I recommend, but 865 is the fav. I made the mistake of restringing with YY BG 68Ti instead of my perennial choice, Ash A68Ti (@ 21 lbs), but it is still lighter and faster at the head than with out-of-the-box A's Rally 21 which just doesn't do these racquets justice. Also, after a week trying the OEM "comp grip" (some may prefer, I don't), I switched to Rad Cushion used by the PC 20, S30 - much more tactile feedback and comfort. The 865 is marginally slower than the PCS 30, about the same as the 20Be, but they are all quick. It feels to me the most solid, although not quite as smooth as the 30's off center shot (maybe due to the 30's sPARC tech). Either way, I don't think the 865 gives up anything without the PC tech and in my hands it has a little more needed power despite the higher flex rating without giving up the sharp reflexes and control for doubles. The paint scheme is subdued (not a 'look at me racquet' like the 20Be), but up close looks highest quality. I have knocked this racquet moderately enough to make a small paint chip but the solidness remains. Although it is an older updated model, a bit of a sleeper in that sense, I would recommend the Rapier to any advancing doubles player who wants top control and reflex with more than adequate power. Looking forward to restringing with A's Power Gut 66 TfT next season! |
